Preaching from the Choir

Here are a few nuggets of wisdom, acquired from the experience of singing in well directed choirs. I like how these can apply by analogy to much of life. I leave it to you to do your own analogizing.
  • Always bring a pencil. Use it.
  • Diligence and discipline set you free to sing from the heart.
  • The only way to improve at sight reading is to sight read.
  • Don't depend on your neighbors. You'll copy their mistakes.
  • Help your neighbor.
  • When your neighbor corrects you, say thank you.
  • Know your part. Know how it fits. Be prepared.
  • In concert be courteous by NOT singing when you're not sure.
  • In a big hall trust what you see, not what you hear.
  • Look! Listen! Adjust to the moment!
  • Trust the conductor.
  • After the performance you can't fix the little errors, so leave them behind.
